Dedication of African Passages, a new museum exhibit at Fort Moultrie
March 22, 2009
3 p.m.
1214 Middle Street
Sullivan’s Island, SC

Join the National Park Service as we dedicate African Passages, a newly installed museum exhibit at the Fort Moultrie Visitor's Center.

The new exhibit examines the role of Sullivan’s Island as a quarantine station during the international slave trade when Charleston was the main port of entry for captive Africans in North America. Historians estimate that slave ships brought 200,000 to 360,000 men, women and children into Charleston’s harbor.

The 3:00 pm program will include music, drumming and a libation. In case of inclement weather the program will be moved into the auditorium. For more information, call the park at (843) 883-3123.
